Taiji / Tai Chi (9 wk course)

  • Tapestry Massage & Yoga and Wildwood Apothecary 307 West Main Street Radford, VA, 24141 United States (map)

Taiji (Tai Chi) is a very old and very effective exercise system that is characterized by slow, elegant, simple movements. The benefits of this contemplative and meditative exercise can include improved balance, flexibility, increased stamina, weight loss, and stress reduction.

Radford Tapestry will be offering a nine-week Taiji course beginning April 2, 2018 and running through May 28, 2018.  This will be a course appropriate for the beginner and for the seasoned practitioner.  This nine-week course will introduce common themes and practices for Taiji in general, and the Yang Style 16 posture demonstration form will be taught.  Taiji practice does involve learning a series of movements.  Attendance for the whole course is recommended to achieve the maximum benefit and for ease of learning and retaining the form, although students are welcome to join in when they can.

The instructor will be Beth Kelsey, a student of many styles and forms of Taiji hand forms and weapons forms (spear, saber, sword and fan) since the 1980’s.  She has trained with many skilled teachers from the U.S., Canada, China, and Taiwan including Grandmaster Yang Jun, official lineage holder of Yang Family Style Taiji.

No special equipment or clothing is necessary other than supportive athletic footwear.

"There were many things in my youth that I'm not proud of...they were loose threads...untidy parts of myself that I wanted to remove. But when I pulled on one of those threads...I unraveled the tapestry of my life." -Captain Jean-Luc Picard
